As a follow-up to our 2024 Maine Downtown Conference session, “Building Community Through Spaces,” Amy Grommes-Pulaski, Abby Wilson (Discover Downtown Westbrook), and CJ Opperthauser (Friends of Congress Square Park) have joined forces again. This brief learning session will provide an overview of the concepts and goals of placemaking and placekeeping, with an acute focus on applicability for Maine’s downtowns and downtown organizations. Attendees will come away with low-barrier, achievable, customizable means toward the overall goals of placemaking: vibrant, inclusive, accessible public spaces.
