AUBURN, Maine — The state Chamber of Commerce and the Maine Development Foundation held a news conference announcing a plan to expand the state's workforce by 65,000 people in the next seven years.

The event at Procter & Gamble in Auburn on Tuesday outlined ways to put more military veterans and disabled people to work as part of the overall effort.

"We need to fully engage and fully realize the potential of every Mainer. We have young people who are not currently in school or in the workforce. We have adults without post-high school degrees. We have many older workers and people with disabilities," said Cheryl Miller of the Maine Development Foundation.

The groups that participated in the event put out a report that gave a strategy for growing the state's workforce.
