Economic Council Releases “Measures of Growth” Report

April 15th, 2015

The Maine Economic Growth Council presented its annual “Measures of Growth” report Wednesday. It’s a report card that looks at indicators of how the state’s economy is doing. The report says Maine made progress on four indicators, lost ground on seven, and has seen no improvement on twelve. The report shows the state is doing well and showing improvements in areas like the cost of doing business, energy cost, and air and water quality. “The good news on the horizon is we have access to low cost energy which is going to drive Maine’s economy in just a very short period of time. We are excited about the prospects of that,” said Senator Mike Thibodeau. “But what’s even more important that we note and make plans for are our areas of concern. We need to invest in research and development and grow our innovation economy. We need to compete nationally but we also need to compete globally,” added Representative Sara Gideon.
