Maine Development Foundation (MDF) is seeking a Director of Engagement
and Communications

The newly created role of Director of Engagement and Communications will report to and work with the President/CEO, senior leadership and program staff to create and oversee development and delivery of a robust communications and engagement function in a time of dynamic opportunity and growth for the organization. Strategic and effective communication to and engagement of stakeholders ranging from alumni, members and partners to members of the legislature and general public has significant impact on our ability to deliver on the promise in our mission.

MDF provides leadership, trusted research, and creative cross-sector partnerships to enable Maine business, community, and policy leaders to drive Maine’s long-term economic growth. Created in statute in 1978, MDF is a private, non-profit, non-partisan membership organization working with leaders statewide for sustainable growth. Our signature programs include Measures of Growth for the Maine Economic Growth Council, Leadership Maine, Policy Leaders Academy for the Maine Legislature, Adult Promise, Next Step Maine, the Forest Economy Project, and the Maine Downtown Center. Essential Functions
• Serve as an integral member of the senior leadership team and ambassador for the mission of MDF.
• Strengthen and build external relationships with key constituencies, including alumni, media, funders, partners and municipal leaders through communication, outreach and meaningful engagement.
• Develop, manage, coordinate and maintain stakeholder engagement in a shared mission to ensured long term economic growth in Maine.
• Develop, manage and coordinate member and alumni retention strategies.
• Develop, manage and coordinate MDF’s communication plan.
• Deliver communications through multiple channels and to targeted audiences that promote, enhance, and protect the organization's brand reputation.
• Develop, integrate, and implement a broad range of public relations activities relative to the strategic direction and positioning of the organization and its leadership.
• Enhance, develop and maintain MDF’s varied and integrated communications products and services including: newsletters and print publications; Web, E-news, social media, and other online communications; media and public relations; and marketing.

• Bachelor's degree
• 5-7 years of experience in a similar role
• Experience as a senior leader

Profile of a Successful Candidate
• Demonstrated ability to effectively interface with and meaningfully engage stakeholders – alumni, members, funders, businesses, partners, etc. – with a mission.
• Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing a comprehensive strategic communications, media relations, and marketing program.
• Demonstrated skill and comfort in proactively building relationships with reporters, editors and a variety of external constituents.
• Hands on experience in planning, writing, editing, and production of newsletters, press releases, annual reports, marketing literature, and other print publications.
• Extensive successful writing and editing experience (externally focused) with a creative variety of online communications media.
• Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
• Innovative thinker, with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and output
• Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills
• Self-reliant, good problem solver, with a focus on the desired outcomes
• Ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs
• Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive
• Passion for MDF’s mission

Position: Full time, exempt.
Reports to: CEO
Location: Primary location for this position is Augusta, Maine.

Compensation: Range - $60 - $70k; competitive salary based on experience and excellent benefits.
